Intel's Latest 8th-Gen Core Processors Focus on Improving Wi-Fi Speeds

Intel formally revealed their new 8th Gen Intel Core U-series and Y-series processors. Both chips are designed for 2-in-1 devices and light laptops and enable Gigabit Wi-Fi internet speeds which are described by Intel as being up to “12-times faster” than normal. The U-series chip also provides faster LTE speeds while both are said to offer processing speeds twice that of the average five year old computer.

“The new 8th Gen Intel Core processors extend once again our leadership in delivering exceptional performance,” Intel’s Christ Walker said in a press release. “Now with Gigabit Wi-Fi, we’ve enabled faster PC connectivity, added more intuitive voice experiences and enabled longer battery life needed for the next wave of mobile computing.”

The new U-series chip is designed to support “multiple voice services” with both Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana being mentioned by name. It will also enable Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos functionality on compatible devices. The Y-series on the other hand is geared more towards improved touch and stylus functionality.

Google wants to help US veterans find civilian jobs

Google is giving US veterans find jobs that fit the skills they learned in the military, and highlighting veteran-led businesses in searches. Those who've been in the military can now search "jobs for veterans" in Google, then use their military job codes -- such as MOS, AFSC or NEC -- to narrow down the job listings to those needing the skills they honed in the military, the search giant announced in a blog post.

The company is extending this feature to employers and job boards using its Cloud Talent Solution job search program, and FedEx Careers, Encompass Health Careers, Siemens Careers, CareerBuilder and Getting Hired are among the first to adopt it.

Before this, the post by former Air Force civil engineer and current Google Cloud program manager Matthew Hudson notes, there wasn't an easy way for veterans to find jobs to match their abilities

"As a result, one in three veterans -- of the roughly 250,000 service members who transition out of the military each year -- end up taking jobs well below their skill level," he wrote.

This increased focused seems like a natural evolution of its Google for Jobs initiative, which launched in June 2017.

The company is also highlighting the more than 2.5 million businesses being run by former military personnel by adding a "Veteran-Led" attribute that'll appear in its Google listing, according to a separate post.

For veterans and military spouses looking to develop new skills, Google is also giving the United Service Organizations a $2.5 million grant to offer Google IT Support Professional Certificate training -- preparing people for entry-level IT support jobs, TechCrunch notes.

Fiber optic internet or cable internet ¿Who's the best?

Finding the best internet connection for your home or business can be a daunting task. If you don’t know your way around the different types of internet connections, you will probably feel overwhelmed the second you start looking at options. Going on blind faith without knowledge doesn’t usually work out well. In an attempt to help build your arsenal of knowledge, let’s look at some characteristics of fiber optic internet and cable internet, two of the more popular connection options:

Fiber Optic Internet

Fiber internet is the newest and best internet connection available today. Its technology is unrivaled! Here’s how it works: Data is sent through small glass fibers that transmit light. This makes the rate of data transfer quicker and more reliable, especially over long distances.

¿What makes fiber superior to other connection types? Not only is it incomparable in speed, but it is first in line when it comes to reliability. Since it is immune to drastic fluctuations of temperature, water submersion, and power outages, it rises above the competition with ease. Also, since a private network is set up when your fiber connection is installed, the risk of being hacked drops dramatically.

Fiber internet at your home or office will probably come down to one bottom line…costs. While installation may seem a bit pricey, don’t let that deter you from going with the fiber optic option. You won’t find many fiber customers that regret their internet connection decision. This is mostly because of the unprecedented services fiber offers and the lack of maintenance needed! Just install and you are off to a faster, safer internet experience!

Cable Internet

Cable internet is considered the “traditional” type of high-speed internet connection. Like its name suggests, cable internet uses a cable television’s infrastructure to transmit data. Basically, if you have cable internet, you are receiving your television and internet services through the same cable connection.

Now, cable internet differs from fiber internet in many ways. Speed differs from fiber because with cable internet, you are sharing a copper-based line with your television service. This can cause slow-downs, or “lags,” in your internet speed during high traffic times. Also, if you experience flooding, strong storms, etc. your cable internet will cease the moment your power does.

While it’s true that cable internet can be offered at lower prices than fiber, you must think about costs in the long run. Where fiber doesn’t require maintenance, cable most definitely will. When your cable connection is damaged or just needing an update in equipment, maintenance and labor costs will ensue.

Three New iPhones coming this September

In few days the “new shiny iPhones” will hit the stores. According to the reports, this year’s iPhone lineup will be drastically different compared to the previous years.

Apple is expected to unveil an updated iPhone X, something which was confirmed as early as March of 2018. However, the big mystery remains unanswered: What will the next iPhone be named? It’s mind boggling as none of the Apple analysts, followers, or even leaksters have been able to find a suitable answer.

Leaving the updated iPhone X aside, the company is said to unveil two completely new devices, according to the information that Bloomberg got hold of. Adding to the already solid leaks, various other analysts like KGI Securities have confirmed that indeed Apple will launch two new devices – a larger iPhone X version and a cheaper version of the iPhone X.

The larger iPhone X is expected to succeed the already available “Plus” lineup of the iPhone family. If the rumours are true, it’ll also be called a “Plus” version but again, the actual name of the phone remains a mystery. It is to sport a 6.5 inch OLED panel, however, the resolution of the display remains unknown.

Also, the larger iPhone will reportedly support side-by-side app usage like the option already available on the iPad. It will single-handedly make for a Samsung Note alternative and could potentially skyrocket iPhone sales as most businessmen and generally, the people who work on the go prefer phones which are good at performing multiple tasks at the same time.

The cheaper version of the iPhone X will reportedly sport a 6.1 inch LCD panel, so as to keep the costs low. It’ll also be available in various colours just like the iPhone 5C, however, it will skip coloured aluminium edges like the ones present on the current generation iPhone X.

Other tidbits include: removal of 3D Touch, FaceID on all iPhones, updated AirPods, and a new wireless charger. For more, stay tuned with Tapscape as we will be breaking the news of the upcoming iPhones as soon as we get the scoops.

ScreenX: the latest move by Cinemas

The Cinemas struggling to lure audiences with the promise of a big screen, are now hoping three big screens will do the trick. Movie houses across the world are increasingly adopting a new gimmick called ScreenX, which surrounds audiences in 270 degrees, one screen at the front and two at each side, for an audiovisual experience that is supposed to be more immersive than the at home experience.

ScreenX is the world's first multi-projection system designed to enhance the cinematic immersiveness of the theater setting. It was created in 2012 by CJ CGV, part of South Korean conglomerate CJ Group, as one of the company's industry-changing "next cinema formats," alongside 4DX, the global leader in multisensory cinema technology with motion and environmental effects. ScreenX allows moviegoers to experience beyond the frame of the movie screen by utilizing a proprietary system that expands images of feature films and pre-show advertising to create an immersive, panoramic, 270-degree format that projects onto three walls of theaters. As of July, ScreenX has been installed in 147 screens around the world, including 85 screens in South Korea; 44 screens in China; 4 in the United States; 4 in Turkey; 3 in Switzerland; 2 in France; 2 in Vietnam; and 1 in Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia.
